When did you first start CrossFit? A few years ago.
What is your favorite exercise? Squats
What is your least favorite exercise? Ring dips
What is your sports / fitness background? High school sports, college softball and volleyball.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? A friend I met at the gym.
Describe your first WOD. Were you scared? Excited? How did you feel after you were done? I remember walking into the CrossFit gym very intimidated. I played sports my whole life but never weight lifted. The first week was learning the basics fundamentals of weight lifting. After my first WOD I was addicted. CrossFit is basically funtional movements done at high intensity. I was sore for about a week! lol
When did you know something had to change before you joined Desert CrossFit? I was getting bored at the gym and I wasn’t seeing any results. I knew than I needed a change.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF? Im in the best shape now that I have ever been in. I go out places and get compliments on my athletic built. I’ve toned up and gotten a nice booty from squats. I love my cheat meals but for the most part I make healthier food choices. I’ve noticed the strength that I have built over the short time I have been going to CrossFit.
Tell us about an area of your life most impacted by your decision to join Desert CrossFit? I needed a challenge, something that would push me and CrossFit was my fix.
Can you describe your most memorable Desert CrossFit experience for us? At one point I stopped coming to CrossFit. I took some time off and tried to do the gym thing again. Immediately I regreted it. Mo, one of the crossfit coaches reached out to me. Told me I was missed at the box. Thats all it took for me to pick up the phone, call and ask to come back. Best decision I have ever made. Thanks Mo!
When have you used CrossFit outside the box? I live a very active lifestyle so CrossFit has helped a lot with that. It’s a conversation starter with people I meet that enjoy learning more about working out. And my overall strength has improved since CrossFit.
What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit? I enjoy hanging out with my friends and family. I just got a new puppy dog Nala. I love outdoor activities and going hiking.
What are some of your CrossFit goals for the next year? One of my goals is to build more strength. Work on my technique and Rx on more of my workouts.
What are some of your favorite cheat meals and why? During the week I eat pretty healthy. I enjoy going out to eat on weekends and having a few beers. Mexican food is probably my favorite.
Any advice for people just getting started? Stepping into a CrossFit gym for your first time can be intimidating and overwhelming. I was a little nervous. I thought I’d walk into a dark, scary room, full of grunting, sweating meatheads, which, suprisingly, was not at all what I experienced. Instead I walked into a welcoming space with motivational quotes on the walls, members of all shapes and sizes, and friendly coaches who are excited to teach us all about CrossFit Just do it, I promise you will not regret it.
