The goal of this challenge will be to take the focus off the scale and put the
 emphasis on macronutrients: protein, carbohydrates and fat.

During the challenge, we will be following the Ketogenic Diet, where our bodies
 will operate in a state of nutritional ketosis.

So what is ketosis anyway?

Ketosis is a state in which the body uses ketone bodies produced by the liver as its primary fuel.

When the body is low in carbohydrates (glucose), the body’s metabolism shifts away from glucose and towards fat utilization. 
It becomes incredibly efficient at burning fat for energy and it also provides a steady stream of fuel to your brain, while cooling down the inflammation that’s responsible for today’s most deadly diseases.

Ketones provide a much more efficient and cleaner fuel source than glucose. Think of ketones as supercharged rocket fuel for your brain. They are metabolized faster than glucose, supply more energy and even reduce damaging
 free radicals. On the other hand, running your body on glucose is equivalent to using diesel fuel: the process is dirty with lots of exhaust.

The goal is to switch our body from sugar fuel to fat fuel.

Our entire lives, we’ve been told that the preferred source of energy in the body is carbohydrate or glucose. This has been proven false. Ketones are an alternative and often-superior fuel source.

So how do you do it?

After getting your body composition measured (there is no cost for this), you will be given your personal macronutrient numbers. Meaning…’ll learn exactly how much protein, carbohydrates and fat you will need to each eat day to become a fat burning machine.

You’ll track your food each day using the app Chronometer (available in the app store for a one-time fee of $2.99). Chronometer tracks how much protein, carbs, and fat you eat over the course of the day. Really cool stuff!

Everyone will receive an Excel spreadsheet, set up to let you keep track of how well you follow the different rules of the challenge on a daily basis. Accountability is key! By filling out the spreadsheet each day, you will earn points that will be totaled up at the end of the challenge. The point totals in combination with a few other things will help to determine the overall winners.

Every week there will be a different lifestyle challenge that you are encouraged to practice each day for 1 week. If it’s a good fit….by all means, keep at it! Otherwise, there’s another one right around the corner to take for a spin.

This allows you the opportunity to spend a few minutes each day being present and building joy, kindness, and happiness into your life.


An email will be sent out every Sunday to go over what the theme is and tips/ advice to be successful.  We will send another email out on Thursday as a ‘check in’ to see how the week has gone. During each week, there will be a prize of $10.

We will select top male/female winners. If you think you have the best results over the course of 6 weeks.

Accumulate before and after photos, InBody (body composition) before and after results, as well as compose an email stating why YOU think you deserve to be the Best. Life. Ever. winner.  Include anything that you believe will help your case to convince us to choose you!   

Desert CrossFit members who win will receive 1 month of unlimitied CrossFit classes at DCF. Non-Member winners will receive either 50% off of Desert CrossFit’s Intro Course ($125 Value), or the price of registration ($127 cash).

There will also be a spectacular Keto Cooking Demo! The cooking demo, led by the uber talented Karen Luoto, is an all-inclusive cooking lesson and tasting delight. The knowledge and skills you’ll acquire will get you started efficiently making gourmet-tasting dishes to improve the long-term quality of life of you and your loved ones.

You’ll be walked through the prep and making of easy gourmet Keto dishes. After the demo and a little Q & A, we get to eat the food!  Be prepared for a feast!

The cooking demo and delicious dinner is available to members and non-members alike for only $15/person.
